Read on to find out how Fairytale Bride Society will help you get the perfect fit through weight loss both great and small.
You want to look and feel your best for the biggest day of your life. Pictures from your wedding day will last a lifetime, and you want everything to be as perfect as possible. Your fiancé and I have something in common. We agree that you are practically perfect just the way you are. But if you feel like getting those wedding jitters out through exercise, we will walk with you through whatever journey you need to go on. We’ll even run around Ritter Park with you at 7am if that floats your boat. More than that, we will guide you through the best steps to get the fit you are looking for.
Here are some practical steps to help you navigate the buying and alterations process…
1. Keep us in the loop. Weight loss on your own vs with medical assistance- whatever you decide to do, just keep us informed so we can help you buy the right size and schedule alterations at the right time. It’s also good to ask your doctor (if you are going that route) how much weight you can expect to lose and when. This way we can avoid doing alterations until you are at your goal weight. We don’t want to do the work twice and you don’t want to pay twice.
2. 10lbs equals about one dress size or approximately 2 inches. If you are interested in the nitty gritty details then this is the scale for you (pun intended.) For every 10-15 lbs you lose, you can expect the dress to have about 2 inches more wiggle room. The same goes for weight gain. If you gain 10-15lbs then you will have about 2 inches less wiggle room.
3. Standard alterations can make a gown smaller or larger by about 2 sizes (4-6 inches.) Our fairy godmothers are magical. We can change the gown size by more than 2 sizes, but that’s when it gets complicated and, therefore, a bit more expensive.
So what’s a girl to do with all this information? She trusts the professionals.
For brides who are not using medications to help the process along, we recommend buying the gown size that closely matches the size you are now. We can schedule your first alterations appointment for around 12 weeks before the wedding. That way, you have plenty of time to lose the weight before we start sculpting the gown to your curves. Once we begin the alterations process, we ask that you try to maintain and not lose more. But don’t stress, we will make adjustments as we go so the dress fits like a glove. When we say glove, we’re talking about a surgical glove and not a winter mitten.
For brides who are going through medically assisted weight loss, we will advise on a case-by-case basis. Every body is different, so that is why it is important to talk to your doctor and let us know where you stand in your journey. Your Senior Fairy Godmother, Laura (yes, I’m making an old joke because 37 hit me hard,) has been the only bridal gown alterations specialist in the tri-state for 7 years. I care how your dress fits because my goal is to help you feel like your best, most authentic self on the most photographed day of your life.
You are gorgeous and your fiancé loves you just the way you are. We will do our very best to make sure you remember it every step of the way.
